I arrived in the Northeast Kingdom in 1969. Until 1996 I lived in West Burke where along with raising a wonderful daughter, Rachel, I raised numerous pigs, chickens and cows. Perhaps the most famous member of our family was our Basset Hound, Oscar. Oscar served as West Burke’s unofficial “mayor” for a number of years before succumbing to a heart problem. In 1996 I moved to East Burke where I live with my wife, Judith.
I held numerous offices during my years in Burke. I began my political career by being appointed to serve on the Planning and Zoning board which I chaired for several years. My first elected office was as Burke’s Second Constable. After many years of successful dog catching, I was elected to the Selectboard in 1989 where I served until 1991.
In 1990, I was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives where I served until 2004. During my 7 terms my primary committee assignment was on the House Committee on Education.
In 2008, with the passing of Cola Hudson, I sought out and was appointed to fill out the remainder of Cola’s term.
